EURASIAN TREE SPARROW AND BABIES IN MY BACKYARD

Image

JULY 10, 2013

Several famous Eurasian tree sparrows,  ( a bird that serious bird watchers travel from all over to  see in  St. Louis)  have decided  that my backyard is a good place to raise a family, get  a quick meal, or a drink of  water.   These Eurasian  Tree Sparrows are descendants of  the same that were released in  Lafayette Park in St. Louis,  Missouri in 1870 and even though they established a population  in the southern St. Louis area, they have  not  spread across the continent.  These birds looks similar at the common House Sparrow but  they lack the aggressive behavior  of  the House Sparrow.  My Eurasian Sparrows eat from my finch feeder and  safflower feeder.   I’ve enjoyed  the wonderful opportunity to watch from my patio as  a pair of these sparrows raised and fed a couple of fledgings.  Hope you enjoy the photos of dinner time in action .
