OWL PROWL in FOREST PARK, ST. LOUIS, MO

Owl Prowl

March 29, 2015

What a wonderful  time I had tagging along on an Owl Prowl with “The Owl Man” himself, Mark Glenshaw.  Mark has been watching the same mated pair of Great Horned Owls, who he affectionately named Sara and Charles, since 2005.   Mark , with his fun sense of humor and vast knowledge of Great Horned Owls, this pair in particular, was very enjoyable and the time  flew by ( no pun intended) in the 2 hour prowl.

To add to the excitement, Sara and Charles also have 2 owlets at the time of this prowl,   one who had already fledged but the other still in the nest, which is a hollow in a tree.  I had never seen an owl in the wild before so it was a thrill to see all 4 sitting up in the trees so majestic looking and the owlets were so cute with their baby fuzz.

Please enjoy the photos and if you are interested in attending an Owl Prowl with Mark, or would like him to come speak about the owls, his email address is:   mglenshaw@gmail.com

Owlet still in the nest.  I had to over-expose the photo a bit to make it easier to see  this baby.

Fledgling in a softer light is showing  off  some  baby fuzz.

As the sun sets , Sara takes off to hunt for dinner. Can you see her almost  at the top of the front tree on the left, in the middle of the photo?

Moving to another tree, Sara is now sitting at the tip top of this tree, in the middle of the photo.
